DJ InTheDark Bio: Learning from the Master

Posted by djInTheDark - July 1st, 2009

Yo,

Well, I thought it was time to write one of these little generic biographies about myself, of course with no purpose what so ever =). Anyway, on to business...

I guess for starters I'll talk about how I became a DJ. I think it all started on one of those day, ya know, when you've got nothing to do and you've already played all the games you would ever have any need to play (and your not about to go out into the unknown of the internet to find more)? Well it was one of those days for me, and I had recently been becoming interested in electronic music (just coming out of the humor and comedy genre). So I called up my very good friend, DJ IonicClash. I asked him about what kind of music I should look into and maybe make a suggestion on a composition program. So he suggested MadTracker (it wasn't MadTracker 2 yet) due to the fact that he had been using it for ten years. The only down side to it was that he wouldn't tell me how to use it, said I needed to "learn and explore for myself," whatever that means. And I gotta say, it was probably the best thing that ever happened to me in my musical career.

Now you have to understand (just so you know I'm taking a detour to my friends history), the guy I called was no amateur. He was nationally known at 14, got his first record deal at 16, bought a house at 18, and built his own club from the ground up at 20 (house and club both in Hawaii). If only he had been around a bit longer, because on May 11th at 3:30am, his house with him inside asleep, was burned to the ground. He fought for 9 hours in the hospital before passing away at 1:45pm. Arson fire was suspected in police and investigations, the search on going.

So anyway, before his sudden death at 23, he was able to teach me how to mix... jesus christ, what did I get myself into? It was alright at first, but that was when I was using a rented CDJ. When I finally bought my own equipment, I got vinyl instead. GOD, what a nightmare. It wasn't long before I traded in my vinyl for compact. And so here I am, 14 and mixing my ass off. But its not a bad life, business is good when all the professionals in your area suck. Well, thats about all I have to say. Comment if you like, I'll be waiting here, just keeping the beat...

Make It Loud,
DJ InTheDark
